Visitor Question...
I desperately need your help!!! Ok, here's my story... Naturally I have dirty blonde hair...I had been dying it platinum blonde once a month for about a year...just touching up the roots. Well this past week on a crazy whim I decided I wanted to dye it brown (by myself). So not thinking of what it might do to my hair I bought cheap Revlon haircolor...because it was on sale (yikes badd idea) and I went to coloring...it came out an ugly grayish brown. I was MORTIFIED!!! So in desperation I tried dying it back blonde over that...it came out better but I just wasn't satisfied so ignorantly I dyed it blonde once more in an attempt to lighten it. Now it is a silverish blonde, obviously a sign that all the pigment has been stripped out of it. So my question for you is, What can I do from here?
I plan to break down and spend the big bucks to go to a salon and have it fixed, my idea was to have them put back some reds and golden browns....to bring my hair to a nice golden brown and then get a lot of thin blonde highlights...would that be possible?

First and foremost, don't use any more permanent hair color. Very porous hair grabs mostly the ash (blue) pigments from ANY color, even if it's a red! This happened to me at one time when I was platinum, trying to color back. Everything I put on my hair, even copper colors, turned grey.
The solution is to use a deposit only color or color gloss to add a bit of pigment back to the hair. You can either go to a professional (make sure they have color gloss products before you book an appointment), or purchase a bottle of Sebastian ColourShines and do it yourself (of course you'd have to wait for it to arrive in the mail).
Though the highlights would be a nice touch, I'd recommend against it for the time being. My suggestion would be to use the color gloss and treat your hair with reconstructing treatments until it's in better shape, then add a few highlights.
