A copper color

by Jacqueline Robinson

I bleached my aunt's hair and deposited a semipermanent (sunburst, cinnamon brown, and a little dark brown) it turned out a copper color and it look good on her but she wants it toned down because she thinks its to brassy. Can I put an ash brown on it to cancel out the red? I want to tone it down but keep some of the effects.

Toner Downer..
by: Michelle

Hi Jacqueline,

Try a semi-permanent neutral brown. Ash works well to neutralize yellow tones, but isn't as effective with orange tones. It can give you a muddy (greyish/greenish) looking color. Especially over hair that is already porous from bleaching.

So look for something that has NO gold tones or warmth of any kind, but also not an ash. Something labeled 'medium brown' would probably work well.

Best,
Michelle
