At home care for red hair

I add color to my hair in between salon visits to help keep my red highlights bright. Is there a good toner or cellophane to deposit color so that I don't have to dye and lift? I have Bright red highlights.

There's no need to "dye and lift" in order to deposit pigment. Try one of the following

1) Use a pigmented shampoo/conditioner combo, like those from ARTec or Aveda.

The conditioners are best because they don't contain the cleansers that shampoo does. Conditioner can be left on for several minutes to increase absorption of the pigments.

2) Alternatively, you could use a stain like SEBASTIAN Colourshines (I believe Sebastian is discontinuing the line, so get any last stock while you can!) to deposit pigments and add shine to your hair.

Be careful of your towels and other absorptive surfaces in your washroom (i.e., porcelain tiles) when using either of these types of products.

3) Lastly, you could use a semi-permanent hair color once between salon services. Semi-permanents don't lift the hair at all, they simply deposit pigments, but unlike the above two options, they contain molecules which penetrate the hair shaft (a little bit), so the effects are longer lasting.

Be careful with semi-permanents, though... some aren't as "semi" as advertised and will have more of an effect on the non-highlighted hair.

All the best,
