baby fine hair

My hair is baby fine and longer that it's ever been (have trouble reaching the tip if I'm using rollers). I'm ready to get it cut but don't want my usual reaction.....Why did I do it, I hate it!!! I'm 60, and want something easy, but that looks good on me. I've tried lots of different products suppose to "hold the hairstyle so it won't go flat" and none of them have worked. I have reached the point that I see a hairstyle I really like in a magazine, but I'm afraid to try it. Are there any products that really work on baby fine hair?

Fine hair

There are many products that work on baby fine hair. Using the right product is only half the battle. You have to know how to use your tools properly to build volume in your hair. Check out the "techniques" section of this page for details on how to pump up the volume.

Longer layers on top will not help with your quest for volume. Lightening the top layers will help as well as just a tiny bit of texturizing in just the right places (underneath the top layers).

So, bottom line...

Shorter layers on top. Product applied properly (i.e., underneath the top layers especially) and styling techniques to entice volume. AND be careful about the shampoo and conditioning products that you use. Cleansers/conditioners that are too heavy will weigh your hair down. Also, use a clarifying shampoo on occasion to strip off product buildup that could be adding weight.

All the best,

baby fine hair - what works
by: Judy

The longer your fine hair the harder it will be to style & keep it's style and the less any product you use will help. What you need first is a very precise cut. Shoulder length on my fine hair is as long as I can go but need some layering or it just looks limp and horrible. Look at www.thehairstyler.com website to find something that works with your face shape and your hair type. Then volumizing mouse & light hairspray, that's all.
