bleached + perm = breakage

by Taylor
(Washington, DC)

I have been bleaching my hair for ten years now, and I've always wanted a body wave, so after seeing my friend get one (she had virgin hair at that point) I decided to get a body wave/ perm and now the hair around my hairline (which was the blondest and most bleached) is frizzy and breaking off!

would a straightening solution totally destroy it? I have been using lots of conditioners and oil to try and save it but my hair contstant looks wet there.

any advice?

any advice? yea! dont do your hair yourself!!! are you serious? your hair is breaking off and you want to put MORE CHEMICALS ON IT!! OMG!! try a protien based conditioner. probably only from a professional. its different from a moisturizer. a leave in conditioner would help and a product for shine. try rollers for a healthier look.[NOT HEAT!]GOOD LUCK!

thanks for your advice, but my highlights and perm were all done at a salon, so you would think the hairdressers would realize that putting a perm on may be a bad idea.

I just want to straighten out the hair near my hairline because its frizzy and breaking, but I can see adding more chemicals aren't going to help. I have putting a ton of leave in conditioner and some oil treatment my hairdresser, who did the perm, gave me.

is there any way to wash this thing out??

you cant wash it out. as i said before, try the leave in conditioner and products for shine. for the areas in the front try a product like SEBASTION MOLDING MUD. its a greasy base and its been my experience that curly dry hair just absorbs the product and makes it look normal. that should take some of the frizz out. let it dry natural with the products in it. if you try to straighten it it will break. flat irons will make it look shiny but it will break off.

Olive oil

Put regular olive oil on your hair. Just a dollop mixed on your wet hair, and you can air dry or blow dry. I use this on my extremely bleached out hair and it helps give it shine and makes it stronger.

Try the spray in stuff for.....

flat ironing. I get mine at Sally's and it's cheap. My hair is very bleached and I got a body wave that burned it horribly. I spray the stuff on it and it feels like silk. I can blow dry it and flat iron it with no problem.
