blonde turned grey

My hair use to be black....not naturally...And I have been going to the salon to get it highlighted to go lighter a little at a time. The last time I was in there we achieved a light blonde but when I got home I noticed that there were lighter highlights that look grey!

just overtoned
by: Michelle

It can be tricky to get an even blonde tone, especially on hair that has been repeatedly highlighted. Some strands will inevitably be white-ish, stripped of all underlying pigments and some will be more of a pale yellow, which requires toning. The problem is that the toner, which uses blue tones to neutralize out the yellow, has nothing to tone out on the white-ish strands, so it just deposits the blue pigments, creating a greyish hue.

It should wash out in the first few weeks but if it doesn't, or if you want to get rid of it sooner, you can try a pigmented shampoo/conditioner in a gold tone.

Hope this helps,
