Can I highlight/ lowlight over chemically straightened hair

by sara
(edmonton)

My hair is in great condition, but it is chemically straightened. I wanted to get lowlights/highlights. The stylist said she was unsure if it would be possible and had to see my hair and due a strand test. I have never had colour on my hair. She mentioned posible use of a demi-permanent colour. Looking for advice

Listen to your Colorist

It sounds to me that you have good colorist if she wants to do a color strand test first. This way, she can see if your hair can take the posses, and what condition your hair will be afterwards. This will also show her what level your hair will lighten.

you can use demi color for low light but no high lights. you would have to use a lifting peroxide of at least 20% and I think you will have to much breakage. You didn't say if you are afro-american or caucaisn, but it makes a differance because of the straightner you used.
I have worked in this field for many years and am a licensed hair dresser. Just be very carefull,
good luck
