My first try of blonding my hair

I have natural dark black hair then I color my hair into light ash blonde yet the result was not good. The color blonde only concentrated on the top of my hair (roots). and the rest are still black. I got disappointed and I thought maybe because the blonde color stick on my virgin hair. I use to rebond my hair a few months before coloring it to blonde. yet after a a month and 1 week.. I colored my hair again to the same color and brand. yet. still. it just lighten my hair on top. looks so ugly. when can I change my hair color again into chestnut? month? or can I change after one week? can I? I want to make it darker now. because it looks ugly.
