Clairol Born Blonde Non-Peroxide Toner Being Discontinued?

by Diana

I do believe this toner is being discontinued as only one bottle was on Sally's shelf during my last visit. It is a great, non-damaging product and I would like to locate an equivalent product. Anyone know of such a product?

Discontinued ?
by: Anonymous

I also drove 30 miles to buy some Clairol Creme Toner at Sallys. It is the same toner I have been using for years when I asked the sales lady at Sally she said is was being discontinued by Sallys I have been searching the internet trying to find some. I am very upset because this is the only thing that will get the red or yellow out of my hair after I color it.

Substitutes for Born Blonde Non-Peroxide Toner
by: Anonymous

Sally's carries Clairol's Beautiful Collection semi-permanent color (no ammonia/no peroxide) in one light shade called Champagne. It is not called a toner but works about the same. Sally's also has Ion's Color Brilliance Semi-permanent Hair Color (again, no ammonia/no peroxide) in one light shade called Neutral Blonde. Both are more expensive than is Born Blonde and no crystal packets are available. Both of them worked pretty well on my bleached-to-light-yellow hair. However, I prefer Born Blonde, if I could find it locally. The Ion product is more violet-based; the Clairol one is just neutral.

I have found some Born Blonde Non-Peroxide Toners available over the Internet by Googling the product name. I may yet try that approach.

by: Jane

Why, oh why has the born blonde toner been discontinued. Having used it for a long time, I now am unable to buy the product and have not found any other similar product to even come near this one. Please bring it back.

Bring back BB Toner
by: Sophiaz123

Dear Clairol

WHY did you discontinue a product I've used for 20 years!! It was fabulous, conveniet & easy. Why fix what wasn't broken.

VERY VERY disappointed in you & will avoid all Clairol products from now on. This is an insult to all your consumers.

Oh Clairol, Why have you let me down!!!
by: Pam

I guess everyone's in the same boat! My stylist has used Born Blonde Winsome Wheat on my hair for years and I have had no problem with it. Now it has been discontinued. I guess these companies care more about making money than pleasing their customers. Let's all gang up on Clairol and demand they bring it back! Oh, and the "replacement' they suggest doesn't work.

I am going to the Clairol website and make the case to bring back Born Blonde Non-Peroxide Toner. It may not do any good but if enough people did that, maybe they would reconsider.

I agree with the above ladies. Used this toner for years and it is a pain to try and replace it. Getting Old Sucks and this is why. Thanks Clairol!

Alternatives for Discontinued Born Blonde Tonners
by: Anonymous

JoP, stll the only substitutes I have been able to find are:
Clairol's Beautiful Collection semi-permanent color (no ammonia/no peroxide) only available in one neutral blond light shade. It is not called a toner but works about the same. Sally's also has Ion's Color Brilliance Semi-permanent Hair Color (again, no ammonia/no peroxide) in two light shades. Both are more expensive than is Born Blonde and no crystal packets are available. Both of them worked pretty well on my bleached-to-light-yellow hair. In between colorings, Roux temporary rinses will help a lot, although messy to apply. If Clairol would just re-market Born Blonde as a no-peroxide "fix" for color mistakes, I think the could sell successfully in drug stores.

How to Contact Clairol about Born Blonde Toner
by: Diana

Once again, I Googled the Clairol website and sent an email encouraging them to re-name and re-market Born Blonde Non-Peroxide Toner as a "fix" for disappointing lightening results. Their product is good and only needs re-introduction to a new generation of "bleachers." The form has no category for Born Blonde NPT so just select the Born Blonde category and then address the toner in your correspondence. Choose the "comment" selection. I doubt anyone in the Clairol organization checks sites like Style Hair Magazine so it is necessary to approach them directly. I encourage anyone wanting Born Blonde NPT back, to suggest this new marketing idea (to the younger generation) to Clairol. They will consider anything that they think would sell.

Born Blonde and Creme Toner
by: Mike

I also emailed Clairol about this and got a generic return email. What a bummer, these products actually work. Especially in a recession with people doing their own hair.
Innocent ivory used to turn out the most awesome creamy color on my friend. My other friend had totally fried hair from a flatiron and I mixed 50/50 born blonde toner and conditioner and let it sit for an hour, and her hair was so blonde and bouncy again, and it was soooo damaged looking before.
Anyways, big disappointment Clairol!
Oh yea and the suggested substitutions aren't well thought out.

My New Coping Strategy
by: Diana

I have started lightening my roots with Nice 'n Easy # 98, Ultra Light Neutral Blonde. No. 89 works okay also but is golder. Clariol has apparently tweaked this product to provide higher lift in the two lightest blonde shades.

I applied Roux Fanciful temp rinse in Spun Sand right after lightening. When time to shampoo my hair again, I dampened it (barely) and massaged in Joico Color Endure Violet Shampoo, put on a cap and left it on for 30 minutes. My hair was almost too ashy so I may have left it on too long for my desired beige results. However, I lost very little of the toning color at the next shampoo (using L'Oreal ProVive shampoo for color-treated hair). Joico shampoo is pricey but used as an occasional toner it is a reasonable and very effective solution (for me, anyway).

BRING BACK BORN BLOND TONERS!!!
by: Anonymous

I have lightened, (bleached), my hair for many years...since I was 19 yrs. of age. I am now 69, soon to be 70....people think I am in my 40's! I do love the neutral colors and the gentleness to my hair that the Born Blond no peroxide toners give. WHY have they been discontinued....I do NOT want to use any products which are harsh. I DO want to keep coloring my hair to the natural blond that this toner gives!

by: Anonymous

Please go to www.clairol.com and post your comments there. Maybe, if they get enough complaints, they will bring the toners back. I have used Clairols toners for about 25 years. I can't believe they discontinued them!! I'm not a happy customer and plan to stop using Clairol because of this.

Contacted Clairol.com about Born Blonde Toners
by: Extra-Light Blonde

Here is my message to clairol.com: REMEMBER THE CLASSIC COKE MARKETING BLUNDER??
Clairol is on the cusp of experiencing a marketing repeat with your BORN BLONDE TONERS product line. WHY DISCONTINUE A PERFECTLY GREAT PRODUCT FOR THE SAKE OF "NEW"? Again, REMEMBER the "NEW" Coke.
You have built a faithful BORN BLONDE customer following over DECADES! Born Blonde toners are easy to use at home, have excellent shade choices, AND have unpaid volunteer product reps who promote the product by word-of-mouth to their friends and families everywhere.
COCA-COLA learned their lessen and brought back old Coke, renaming it Classic Coke. How about marketing new "CLASSIC BORN BLONDE" toners and lightners. Create a newly designed box and labels, slightly increase price point, and watch the profits roll in...
One last point: There are more BABY BOOMERS than any other age group with disposable income, and we WILL find a product somewhere that will enable us to be born blonde...

So everyone, email, facebook, phone your comments, too. Maybe Clairol will pay attention.

JUST A RUMOR
by: Anonymous

They are not discontinuing this produce. I also read that on the web a couple of years ago. The Sallys I buy from always has these toners in pretty much every shade they come in. I do not know who started this rumor.

Nov 10, 2011
Unfortunately, Not A Rumor
by: Anonymous

I wish this were just a rumor. When I contacted Clairol via email they said the product had become not profitable enough to continue. Maybe some Sallys had a big supply on hand. You are lucky to still have access to this wonderful product.

Nov 15, 2011
no rummer
by: Anonymous

Well, I was so wrong. Went to buy at Sallys and no go. Makes me sick. I bought this product about six months ago from them. Would not need it if my hairdresser had not totally messed my hair up.
I called Clairol toll free number. Asked them why they discontinued product. Was told it was not a big seller. Thats a lie.

Profit is Apparently King
by: Diana

If the current young generation realized just how damaging "more peroxide" is on their hair, this product would be a big seller, indeed. Sadly, big companies just look at the bottom-line profit. I still think it could be re-marketed and successful but Clairol was not receptive to my idea.

Why discontinue a terrific product!
by: Anonymous

Please, please, bring back the best toner ever! I've used Clairol Born Blonde Toner for years and my hair always stayed in wonderful condition. And the Color Balance Crystals kept the color perfect for so much longer. There's no replacement for a great product!

Most Recent Experiment
by: Diana

My most recent alternative to Born Blonde NPT is Revlon ColorSilk Ultra Light Natural Blonde #04 for my roots and a big helping of Roux Fancifull Rinse in Bashful Blonde as a toner. Roux has reformulated their product (in the pink bottle) resulting in it being more conditioning. When wet it feels sticky, even slimy, and very stiff when damp but great body and shine when dry. Yes, it does wash out but also stains the hair cuticle...as well as anything it touches so dedicate an old towel. If I use Roux again after the first shampoo (I wash with Hair One from Sallys for color-treated hair) it seems to hold the color until the next touch up. Bashful Blonde looks like a reddish brown when wet but dries to a nice beige tone on me.

This strategy would NOT have worked for me before I had a lot of gray in my hair because I would previously have to resort to straight bleaching of my roots. Lightest shades of Nice 'n Easy and ColorSilk bleach moderately and have a built-in toner, just not always enough toning by themselves.

REPLACEMENT TONERS FOR CLAIROL BORN BLONDE

Pleeeeeeease Bring back Born Blonde non peroxide toner
by: Lorna

I have used Born Blonde Toner for at least 20 years and over that time have tried all the colours. I have tried to find an alternative but nothing is as good. It was kind to the hair and acted like a conditioner. Why it was discontinued I can"t understand. Please Clairol bring it back!

Curse you Clairol
by: Anonymous

Hi,

My mother and I also used born blonde toners with beautiful results. I tried all of Clairol's replacements and none worked, don't waste your money. The best solution I have found so far is Wella "White Lady." It adds a nice violet tone, the negatives are you have to use peroxide with it so it may be a little more damaging and it is is a little trickier to use since it is technically a permanent (although it still washes out on high lift blonde hair).

Feb 06, 2012
alternatives
by: Michelle

Wella also makes a demi-permanent (deposit only, no lift) color that works very well as a toner. Have a look at the page on hair toner for details.

Hope this helps,

The Endless Search
by: Anonymous

Thank you, Michele, for looking for alternatives. From the information on the link, the Wella No Lift product does not appear to have enough actual color to tone yellow/bleached hair. However, I will take a look at it the next time I am at Sallys.

My Proactive Campaign
by: Diana

I have sent a comment more or less like the following to VitaCost, Swansons, Beauty.com, Drugstore.com and iHerb. They all responded that they will look into carrying Proclere.

"Like many loyal Baby Boomer customers, I was left in the lurch when Clairol discontinued Born Blonde Non-Peroxide Toner after more than 40 years on the market. There is nothing in the US that is even close to equivalent; many people have search, too. I have discovered that a dup product exists in the UK called Proclere Herbal Blonde Toner. It even has the same general colors and the crystal packet. If you stock this item, I will post the information on Makeupalley.com and other beauty sites. www.proclere.co.uk "

Oct 10, 2011 Update
by: Extra-Light Blonde

After emailing my message to clairol.com, I received the same message as other Born Blonde toner customers.
It seems obvious that Clairol Marketing could care less about their baby boomer customers --- so I decided to also switch to OTHER COMPANIES for my shampoo, conditioner, styling mousse, hair spray, AND out of neccessity, for a temporary color rinse for light blonde hair.
Hopefully, some company will see this now-untapped customer niche and create a whole new product line for home and professional use, since Clairol obviously doesn't want it!

Stop buying anything Clairol, boycott all Clairol merchandise, that includes Wella too, as they also purchased the Wella company.. If they can dump on us, we can dump right back at them...
According to my beauty supply place, Cairol is already feeling the pinch... Many beauty shops are boycotting their products also...

Forget Clairol products
by: Anonymous

After using Born Blonde no peroxide toner for 28 years and using the Clairol replacement toners with horrible results, I will never buy another Clairol product again. Talked to one of their reps and she could have cared less. I hope everyone that has used this products also boycotts Clairol. Many of my friends agree. Anybody out there with advice please advise to any similar products, because I have tried everything else out there.

Maybe Some Very Good News!
by: Diana

Ladies, Ladies! I just got a response from Proclere Herbal Blonde Toner in the UK. This is the one that looks and sounds like a dup for Born Blonde NPT. Here is the information: The product is $11US per bottle with a 10% discount for 3 or more bottles in the order. The shipping cost is $7.80 US, regardless of the number of bottles in the order. Just Google Proclere; their site has all the info (not in US $$ but they converted it for me in an email) and also links where you can see a description of the color selection and examples of the colors on models). The crystals may or may not be included with the bottles but I did not see them listed separately on the site. I will be placing an order and post my opinion of the product. This sounds like our best hope yet.

Proclere Ordering Problem
by: Diana

I tried to order Proclere but when I used my Mastercard I was required to register for something called MasterSecure (free). OK, I registered for it but at one point I got an error message (#500?) that my browser would not support the activity and I could not continue. I am going to persist, however, and also will contact MasterCard to see what the "free" MasterSecure is all about as I have never encountered it before. Maybe it has something to do with this being an international order.

I did notice the product bottles only contain about 65mL of product which is probably the amount that Clairol used to sell in the drug stores prior to it only being available at beauty supplies in larger 177mL. bottles. This makes it more expensive (plus there is a modest VAT tax) but I am very willing to pay if it is as good as Born Blonde NPT. I will keep you informed of my progress.

I Have Ordered Proclere
by: Diana

I just ordered three bottles of Proclere Herbal Blonde toner from the UK using my MasterCard. This time the MasterCard Secure Code process went without a hitch. I have two emails from Proclere confirming my order. Do not know how long delivery will take but I am holding off bleaching my roots until it arrives so I can report. The Proclere color numbers are the same as the Born Blonde NPT color numbers, although the color descriptions are sometimes different. I went with the numbers. Await further word from me.

Any Other Born Blonde NPT Knockoffs?
by: Diana

I keep thinking some enterprising US company will produce a dup for BBNPT and sell it under another name. Natural Instincts Temporary Color does contain peroxide (anything that says "developer" contains some strength of peroxide, al beit, perhaps weak). I ordered 3 bottle of Proclere Beautiful Beige as I located two bottles of BB Innocent Ivory on the Internet, I like to mix the two. Hope my Proclere order comes soon as my roots are getting more obvious.

Could of had another generation for Born Blonde npt toners
by: Anonymous

Does anybody out there think Clairol is paying attention to this web site concerning Blorn Blonde non-peroxide toners? How sad that after decades this wonderful product is discontinued. Turned on quite a few younger woman on to it. Their results were satisfaction and consistancy. They only knew of its existance because of word of mouth. The biggest compliment was true color and least damaging. to their hair. These young ladies are also upset that it is now unavailable. Clairol definitely had a marketing problem. They've turned off a lot of loyal customers who have used their substitutes. I and many of my friends will not be purchasing any Clairol products ever again. Their replacement products are hideous, and their spokeswomen just as bad. Good Bye Clairol!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Proclare anyone?
by: Anonymous

To the people who've ordered the Proclare toners similar to the Born Blode toners. Is anything new and how long since you've ordered? Thinking of giving it a try, but so leery as I have spent a lot of time, disappointment and money trying to duplicate the Born Blonde. Help! It's been one disaster after another. Is there any hope that Clairol is listening?

The Status Report on My Proclere Order
by: Diana

I ordered on March 8 but the Proclere charge was not on the MasterCard bill I received yesterday. I have emailed a query to SagePay which handled the transaction. Also, I emailed Proclere asking if I (or, hopefully, they) should do anything else. Meantime, my hair looks pretty bad. I encourage anyone who is unhappy about the discontinuation of Born Blonde NPT to email Clairol (pick the Born Blonde category) and encourage them to re-market Born Blonde NPT, Tell them to re-name it if they wish, and charge more if they feel it was not profitable enough. Failing that, they should have the decency to shop the patent to another company! Bad enough that most of my consumer money goes to China; now I guess the UK will start getting some, too.

Mar 18, 2012
Still waiting
by: Pat

After getting E-mail confirmation and a phone call from Master Card verifying my order for March 8, I'm still waiting for delivery of 3 bottles of Proclare Beaufiful Beige. Hoping Diana post her delivery asap, and I will do so also. Not to mention the results I get. Keep your fingers crossed and sit tight.

Proclere Has Arrived!
by: Diana

I received my three bottle of Beautiful Beige today by regular US Mail. Proclere did not include the zip code (although provided to them) so that may have delayed the delivery. They probably think everyone in Fort Worth, TX, knows each other. LOL It will be a few days before I can bleach my roots and try Proclere but I will post the results.

Proclere on EBay
by: Diana

I plan to do my roots tomorrow. I checked EBay and there are a number of Proclere colors available that range in price from $9.50 to $12.00 US, depending on the seller. I did not check the mailing costs so the prices may or may not be as good as ordering from the company in the UK directly. Some sellers only have one or two colors but most of the Proclere selection seems to be available. I cannot wait to try Proclere.

Proclere: So Far, So Good
by: Diana

I summed up enough energy to bleach my roots late last night so I could try Proclere. Proclere does seem to be the reasonable equivalent of Born Blonde NPT. It is slightly thicker (good) and has a better fragrance. The crystal packet comes with each bottle. I mixed about half of the Proclere Beutiful Beige with a guesstimate of the same amount of some BB Innocent Ivory I had left into a small bowl (with crystals). The Proclere Beautiful Beige shade does seem somewhat redder than I remember the Born Blonde appearing in the bottle. I could be wrong because I have no BB Beautiful Beige left with which to compare.

The instructions said to leave on for 30 minutes but I have very porous hair and it was looking pretty dark so I only left it on 10 minutes. Probably I would have been fine with the full time, though. I got a nice baby beige as I wanted. I will update on how well it retains the color. So far, I think we have a winner. TIP: When only bleaching roots, apply conditioner to the ends of each section after applying the lightener. This both helps to keep the hair sections defined, leaves hair in great condition, and helps prevent the ends from taking up too much toner color.

my next move
by: Pat

I received my Proclere Herbal Toners (Beutiful Beige). It took nearly 3 weeks for delivery. I won't be touching up my hair for another week, but when I do I'm thinking of pulling the bleach through the last 15 minutes as I have a lot of reddish blonde color (strawberry blonde) left over from previous attempts to copy the Born Blonde color. Hopefully when I pull the bleach through, I will get a white yellow blonde that I use to get and then use the proclere to color over it. Don't know if this is a wise move, but don't know what else to do to strip the previous color. Diana's comment sounds hopeful.

Proclere Beautiful Beige trial
by: Pat

Well I tried my beautiful beige from Proclere. It didn't give me enough beige that I would have liked, but I had really bleached lighter than normally. I compared it with some Born Blonde Beige and they are pretty much the same in color but the Proclere is much thicker than the Born Blonde. I did not mix it up in a bowl like they say with the crytals as I like to use a plastic bottle. I had to snip off the top of the bottle to make a larger hole to get it to come out. I'm not totally turned off by this because I still think it was do to my over bleaching. Even though I left it on 10 minutes longer than the required 30 minutes. At least my hair didn't have any red or orange color in it. I just would have liked a little more beige tone. I will try it again and see what happens. Any suggestions out there? Also, I'd like to hear any comments from our sisters in the UK that were looking for the Born Blonde, what their opinion is of the Proclere Herbal Toners if they have tried Proclere since it's in their own back yard.

Bottle vs. Bowl Application
by: Diana

Pat, I was unclear whether or not you managed to get the crystals into the bottle. I have found that using the crystals right after bleaching does help the toner hold its color and it seems more even. In the past, I always mixed BB-NPT and crystals in the bottle; then switched out the cap for a pointed applicator cap. This time, I mixed the Proclere and crystals into a small plastic bowl I got at Sallys and just gooped it on with my gloved hands and worked it through with my fingers. Never would that have worked with Born Blonde NPT but Proclere is thick enough. Amazingly, it was both less messy and faster than my previous bottle application efforts. If you want a more intense color, I suggest you apply Proclere once again after your first shampoo (avoid using a conditioning shampoo that might leave too much coating on your hair). I, too, would like to hear from UK posters as they are lucky to have easy access to Proclere and might have more experience with it.

I have hope!
by: Pat

Diane, Thanks for the response. I did mix the crystals and the Proclere toner together in the bottle. After my next shampoo I'm thinking of trying to color my hair again as suggested. It is just easier for me to use an application bottle, but I'll try the bowl next time. The one good thing about this product, I had absolute zero color of red, orange or any brassiness with the Proclere unlike the Clairol replacement products. I belive the next attempt will be successful. This product has probably been the best substitute for the Born Blonde. All my attempts with the Clairol replacements and other products have been a disaster. Proclere Herbal toners have been the best alternative yet. I'll stay posted and thanks for the info. I have hope!
And just to be clear. When I said I mixed the Proclere and the crystals in the plastic bottle I mean a regular plastic application bottle with a pointed top I've had for centuries. Again, I had to cut the tip lower because of the thickness of the Proclere.

Satisfied with Proclere Herbal toners
by: Pat

Had a chance to shampoo my hair after my bleach and first application of Proclere Beautful Beige Tone. If you remember, I was somewhat satisfied, but felt I could use more beige. Well, the second application of Proclere (sans crystals) worked just great. Have a bit deeper beige in color. I don't know of anything else out there to replace our beloved Born Blonde Toner, but for now the Proclere Herbal Toners is the best I've tried as a replacement. If there is anything else going on out there, please post. Hey Diana, you said that you mix the Beautiful Beige with the Innocent Ivory Born Blonde. Does the description of the Proclere Intoxicating Ivory match the color of Born Blonde Innocent Ivory? Anything new, please post, Especially if they start carrying this in the States. Satisfied for now!

Proclere & Born Blonde NPT Color #s Seem to be Identical
by: Diana

Pat, the Intoxicating Ivory shade in the Proclere line is the same number as the Innocent Ivory of the late, lamented Born Blonde. I feel sure it is the same and I will be ordering it when I run low on my present Innocent Ivory supply.

Question for Diana
by: Pat

Diana, I was wondering how your Proclere Beautiful Beige was holding up after shampoos. I don't feel the color holds as well as the Born Blonde Toners, but I'm sticking with it because this has been the closest in shade that I've been looking for. Have you heard any other comments out there about Proclere toners especially from our sisters in the U.K. I wonder if some junior executive made the decision to dump our Born Blonde toners. Have called and emailed Clairol, but it seems to a dead end. Until they reverse their decision, I'm pretty much through with Clairol. Any information out there will be greatly appreciated. Somewhat happy in Illinois!

Longevity of Proclere Color

Proclere is holding up for me as well as I remember Born Blonde's performance. One thing I am doing differently than in the past is washing with Sally's Hair One for Color Treated Hair. It is a Wen knockoff. It does seem not to strip color like most shampoos. The downside is it smells like Vicks Vapo Rub! I just close my eyes while shampooing. The pro side is it leaves my hair in wonderful condition and, much to my surprise, my dandruff and scalp issues are a thing of the past. I have also tried L'Oreal's EverCreme Cleansing Conditioner and Salon Grafix[s Conditioning Cleanser (Citrus Creme). Both are also Wen knockoffs. The do not have the scent issue but they do not seem quite as conditioning, either.

I do not jump through hoops with Hair One--just wet my hair, work it into my scalp by sections (it does not foam), add water and work through the hair ends, then rinse very thoroughly. I do put a little conditioner on my ends as my hair is shoulder-length.

Another difference is I now have enough gray hair that I can avoid regular bleach and use one of the ultra light blonde permanent products, i.,e, Revlon Color Silk #03, Garnier Nutrisse #100 or (and I hate to say it) Clairol's Nice'nEasy #87, followed by Proclere. I only apply these products to my roots as a pre-lightener; never to the rest of my hair. The peroxide in these products is much weaker and leaves my hair less porous. When my hair was stripped pale yellow, I did notice that toners seemed not to last as long. They would often initially take too dark or have a pink, gray or violet cast but then fade too fast. At least this is one good thing about getting gray. LOL

Say It Isn't True !
by: Anonymous

I have used Born Blonde Winsome Wheat since 1964. I went to get some more a few weeks ago only to find out it is no longer made. Tried an ION product but it is not even close.

Certain products are used and loved by we Baby-Boomer and we certainly would buy them. You have a market. Please bring back !

And....
by: Anonymous

If Pantene can bring back their Silver Expressions shampoo & conditioner......... after they had an overwhelming response from their customers......you would think Clairol would reconsider discontinuing the Born Blonde Toner.

Here is the article:

Clairol's Disinterest
by: Diana

Maybe Pantene is more responsive to their customers' preferences. I urge anyone unhappy with the discontinuation of Born Blonde NPT to email Clairol directly and encourage them to re-market it, at a higher price if they think it was not profitable enough. I have done this twice myself.

Proclere holding up well
by: Pat

Just had to let the ladies out there know that my Proclere Beautiful Beige is holding up well and I'm getting compliments on my color again. Not holding my breath for Clairol to reintroduce Born Blonde Toners, as it seems that they're not interested in loyal customers and a new generation that was just discovering BBNT by way of mouth. How sad that all these woman from the USA, Canada and the UK have been affected by this. Clairol has not really done their homework. Too bad our dollars will now go to another country. Clairol needs to check their marketing approach, but most of all when a company does not listen to their loyal customers, a company starts to decline. Many of Clairol's devoted customers have bailed out on them. Hello Proclere, Good-Bye Clairol!!

Mine, Too.
by: Diana

My color is holding very well, also. I suspect some UK chemist managed to duplicate the Born Blonde NPT formula, thus creating the Proclere line. Clairol could shop their patent for BBNPT to another USA company if they wanted to. I would think some smaller company would pick up the product if Clairol was reasonable about the price of the patent. After all, Clairol does not seem to think it is worth much to them! Of course, the patent-purchasing company would have to use a different name but it would be obvious by description to former Born Blonde users.

Ordered Proclare again
by: Pat

I put in another order of Proclere Herbal toners from the UK. I like to have back up and thinking of trying the Innocent Ivory and Bashful Blonde. I'm not afraid to experiment with the Proclare colors. This second order only took a week. Maybe they have all info on file. Still would like to hear comments from others on the Proclere. Any other sites I should be checking for this? Anything new from Clairol on the born blonde? Diana has been so helpful in all of this. If anything else is going on out there concerning Clairol or Proclere comments, let me know.

Going to Order Proclere NEW
by: Extra-Light Blonde

I'm still following you all and am also going to buy Proclere. Will keep you informed on the results.

I always mix my products in a plastic bowl, then fill application bottle using a narrow rubber spatula. All crystals get dissolved evenly. Once I forgot them in the mix and my roots stayed baby-chicken yellow while color grabbed only outgrowth. Today teenagers would think I was totally up with Lady Ga-ga's hairdos! Also cut top of applicator bottle to allow less resistance for product application.

Diana- when you use one of the ultra-light permanent products for gray, do you have any problem with orange or brassiness on non-gray? I don't have much gray, so think I still need the two-step lightening. I'm also going to try Sally's Hair One...

As far as Clairol goes-- It's a true disappointment that their marketing depts aren't profit-motivated enough to realize that they only have to repackage BBNPT for a new niche as well as call the product "NEW". They could even rename the line and we'd all still figure it out. After all, we're figuring it out for the UK product line...
Hopefully the UK line will come to USA. If anyone, hears that it has, pass the word along.

Thanks for keeping this issue going Diana, Pat, et al.

Gray & Brown Hair Results NEW
by: Diana

When using the extra-blonde kits such as Revlon Color Silk, yes, I do get some red on the part of my hair that is still brown. The only reason I can get away with it is because the brown areas are located on the back of my head and under my bangs so it is not that noticeable that there is a definite color difference. If you have mostly brown hair, pre-bleaching is a must. Probably I should use bleach on these brown areas myself, but it would so complicate the process and I figure time is on my side. LOL
My next plan is to try Garnier Nutrisse in #100 Extra-Light Natural Blonde in hopes it will strip out better. An ash-tone would probably work great on the brown but I would get, well, gray on the gray areas.
