Coloring roots in between professional visits

I have my hair professionally died because of my gray. I have dark hair and the grey roots show after just 3 weeks. Can I dye my roots myself with a wash out box dye in between professional visits? Coloring my roots every 3 weeks professionally is financially killing me!!!

I totally understand the financial crunch when you're trying to hide those greys. However, a wash-out product isn't going to give you good coverage, and may also interfere with what your stylist has been doing. I'd suggest a frank talk with your stylist....she may give such a good client a break to keep you in her chair. She might suggest foiling in some highlights among the dark base to disguise the incoming greys, or might suggest a better product you could use at home, such as a temporary "crayon" or "mascara" style color. Don't be afraid to be honest with your stylist...if she's good, she'll do whatever it takes to keep you happy!
