Cowlicks after Bad Haircut

by Lee

After moving to Mexico a couple of months ago, I went to have my hair cut. A total disaster. The stylist cut the crown and front of my hair way, way too short. The front stuck out straight and I had terrible cowlicks in the crown. Too make things worse, she used a thinning shears which made the whole thing very wispy. My hair is wavy/curly and quite thick, although it is a rather fine texture.
Anyway, I just went back for a "trim" after two months. I explained diplomatically what the problems were and told her to leave the front and crown as they were and to NOT use the thinning shears. The good news is that the front looks OK now, but the crown is still terrible. What has happened is that the cowlicks are just longer than before and stick out worse than ever. I can't style them around my round brush to turn the ends under because they are so wispy and frizzy. The climate here is very dry.

Obviously I am never going to this stylist again. I realize that my hair will have to grow out and I will need to start over with a different stylist and cut. But is there anything you can suggest to help me style my hair in the meantime? I've tried mousse and John Frieda "Secret Weapon" finishing cream, but they aren't helping much.

I'd sure appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!
