Dark brown hair to blonde?

Ok, Hi im Megan :) im 16. So i have dark brown shoulder lengthed heavy layered hair, fair skin, and im going to the hair dressers tomorow to get highlights! It's only now that im having second thoughts, the hairdresser suggested getting a half head of dark blonde, do you think this will be ok?
Could anyone help find a picture of a style you think will be good? With half brown half blonde? It would help me so much, as im not sure of what i want myself!!
I dont want to go to light, but im deffinatly in need of a change, and i'd like to try blonde.
