When you lighten dark levels of hair, there are several stages ofunderlaying pigment that need to be removed. The coppery golden stage is sometimes the most difficult to get though. You may need to remove the bleach mixture from the hair and reapply a fresh batch. Leave the mixture on until when you wipe a test strand with a wet cloth, the hair appears pale yellow, like the inside of a lemon rind. If ends are really porous or in any way compromised...leave them out until you've reached 3/4's of your timing. Also, remember that hair closest to the scalp will lighten quicker, as the heat from the scalp will boost the lightening action. Start your application 1/2" from the roots. Hope this helps.
