Dark red to strawberry blonde

My hair is naturally auborn red, but I've been coloring it different shades of dark red for quite awhile. During the summer, I always try to go to a light strwberry blonde, but end up brassy or orange! I'm on a budget and can't afford to have it done professionally. What shade do you recommend? Should I stick w/ home kits or try mixing it on my own?

I share your problem I have a very dark red. i call it a brown/red. the grey is coming in and I'd like to go a champagne biege but no one seems to be able to change the red to a different color any suggestions
