Is it true that your hair should be dirty when you dye it?

If you are talking about you shampooed yesterday or this am and dont have too much heavy product yes..apply color. Brush hair out smooth without irrating the scalp and do it..... Good luck...

I say the dirty. At least 3 to 5 days. I've been doing it that way for at least 29 yrs. now. The color adheres much better to the follicle. Every hairdresser has told me this. And after you dye wait at 3 days before you wash it for the first time. Lasts much longer! Good luck.
