Dying hair darker after highlights

by Jane
(Texas)

Two weeks ago i got highlights in my hair done at a salon and i don't like them. I have nautrally light brown hair. I plan on dying my hair slightly darker than my natural color on my own. How long do i need to wait? And is it okay to do it on my own and not at the salon?

Hi Jane,

Going darker is the simplest of hair coloring processes, so yes, you should be fine doing it on your own.

You can use either a permanent or semi-permanent color and you don't need to wait. It can be done right away. Just make sure you avoid any ash tones as the highlighted pieces will grab the blue pigments and could turn a greyish color.

All the best,
