Foil Highlights at home

by Megan
(Illinois)

Is there any negative effects if you use everyday, aluminum foil to highlight your hair at home, instead of a cap? The cap doesn't work well with my long, curly hair. I like to use revlon frost and glow on my naturally medium, blond hair. I like the color. I am mainly concerned about a potential chemical reaction. I understand that doing foil highlights takes some precision and know-how. I just want to make sure that it won't cause a chemical burn if I use a drugstore brand instead of a professional mix. Thanks for your articles about foiling:)

Regular foil is fine
by: Michelle

Hi Megan,

Regular ol' household tin foil will work fine for your highlights. Just tear it into strips about 4-5 inches wide and follow the instructions for highlighting hair with foils detailed here.

By the sounds of it, you already found the articles (and you're very welcome!), but in case you need a refresher, or for others who stumble across your post, there's the link.

All the best,
Michelle

side of foil to use

it doesn't matter what side of the foil you use to highlight your hair. It is just a pliable source to use to keep the color in while it processes.
