getting rid of "halo" effect

by Michele
(Fort Lauderdale, FL)

I am a natural dark blonde that pulls red. About a year ago I went platnium blonde with blue tint. It was fabulous! However, my hair started breaking and I decided to try to go back to natural. Because my hair was in bad shape I let it grow out a bit before starting to add color. Ever since, no matter what color I try, I have this "halo" effect. The crown of my head is shiny and bright and looks like whatever color is on the box, but the rest looks dull and darker. My hair is medium lenght.
A professional told me to use a semipermanent color as a filler so yesterday I picked an unusual red (I figured I'm tired of fighting the red anyway) and I STILL have the "halo".
Since this will wash out in a month, I need to know what to do before coloring again.
