Tinting Back

Going black after going blonde is a tricky process, and one that is best left to a professional, especially with a wedding coming up.
When going ash blonde, several underlying colors were removed from the hair, and now will need to be replaced, or you will end up with a funky off-color. It may take 2-3 appointments, as you will need to have the hair "filled" with gold, orange, and red. In my salon, I use semi-permanent colors to accomplish this. No "lift" is needed, only color deposit. Lightened hair is usually very porous hair, and the color may take differently along the hair shaft, so again, this is best left to a professional. Good luck, and hope you turn out beautiful for your wedding!

It depends...
by: Michelle

It depends on which color formula you use and the current condition of your hair (i.e., how porous your hair is). The best way to prevent the hair taking on unwanted hues when doing a color-back is to fill the blonde hair before applying a dark color. I'd use a medium golden semi-permanent color first, then wash it out (after full processing) and apply the dark color.

All the best,

Dont do it
by: Rae

Seriously, I am a bride myself and I dont recc. doing anything THAT drastic without talking to a professional first. You may regret it, especially if your wedding is so soon. You may not have enogh time to get it back to what you need should you have a problem. Mixing ash with anything dark in my experience can go green. Be careful. I hope this helps.

Of course you can!

Don't be absolutely ridiculous, of COURSE you can! Black covers every colour. I don't know what everyone else is talking about, its perfectly safe. Black comes out black, whatever your colour.
I dye my hair black using products myself at home.
I've been most hair colours, but I always go back to black. Go for it!

Why you must use a filler.

It's impossible to go from blonde to pitch black in one process the color will not fully take because the blonde has nothing to grab onto. When you bleach your hair you get rid of the color in your cuticle cortex, which of course makes your hair lighten. You have to put warmth back in the hair or it will not cover. I had a client come in with a level 9 on her hair and level 4 newgrowth I filled with so color 3wn and 5 wn and I added some 3N to it. The color took and it made her hair look so much healthier. It also depends on how porous the hair is.
