gray hair & trendy look

I'd like to keep my hair that is graying and add darker low-light shades of gray for a trendy look. Will this work?

trendy, to me, starts with the haircut. you could have the ugliest haircolor and have the trendiest cut and still look good, in my opinion. having said that, you could do anything to your haircolor to make it look trendier. grey on grey is still grey. the options are endless as far as trendy on color and streaks or lowlights or blotches or whatever color you use. a blotch of pink could work in the right place or any other color for that matter. depends on you and how far you will go and still feel comfortable. start with the cut and you could even leave your hair natural.

I agree, but sadly, stylists always want to give you a conservative "Mom" cut unless you agree to color it. I do not like to color my hair. The texture is nicer and it looks better, IMHO, if I don't.

Women who color must maintain it religiously or their hair gets crispy and moves in clumps.

I prefer soft hair, and natural hair.
Why are all these "Creative" hair people so afraid to experiment with trendy cuts on gray hair and why do they not develop products that brighten the gray rather than hide/cover it?

They are losing a fortune because I would pay very well to keep my gray in nice condition, and add more for a brightening effect. Sadly, my efforts to add MORE gray actually turned it yellowish and frankly that look sucks on my skin tone. I want white gray added, and not covered.
