Hair color and perm?

What is the difference between a rinse and hair dye? Can you get a perm at the same time when you get a rinse or dye your hair?

DYE and Rinse are totally differnt

A rinse is just that ..put it on and it rinses or shampoos out..Can be used the same day as a perm..Dye however is another story,a chemical process..will change the structure of your hair..No 1 to get a perm and a haircolor both depends on the strenght and condition of your hair. If it is determined your hair is healthy, not dry or fragile you can procede with perming, for your hair type..Then condition, condition and condition and in a week or two you can do hAIRCOLOR,or as you put it dye.. With all the above,Personally I would only trust a professional to perm my hair..It can be a damaging process if you dont know what you are doing..Good luck.....

Perms and hair color

You can color hair that has been permed, but try to use a semi-permanent or 'no-ammonia' color instead of a normal permanent color (which uses ammonia and 20 volume peroxide).

Have your hair permed first. Then, as the previous commenter mentioned, wait a week or so before coloring so that the perm can really set into the hair. Permed hair shouldn't even be shampooed for the first few days, let alone colored.

When it is time to color, remember that the hair will be somewhat porous from the perming process (how porous depends on what condition it was in before the perm, what type of perm was used and how well it was executed). Because of the increased porosity though, it will grab the color pigments more readily than untreated hair, giving a darker effect. So you may want to get the color a shade lighter than the result you want to achieve.

After a double chemical process, your hair will need to be treated with reconstructing conditioners to improve it's condition. The perming process actually breaks the protein bonds in your hair (and then rebuilds them into a new formation), so the protein conditioners mentioned in the article linked to just above are especially important.

Hope this helps,
Michelle
