hair color dilemma

me on far right....

My natural hair color is what you see in this photo, black like my mother's. I have left it alone for some time now, and wonder if I should continue to do so, or if I should lighten it up a bit (I will be 38 this year and hear from all angles that you should lighten up as get older). I am very happy with my haircut etc, but always wonder about color. Any ideas? If it helps, my mother's hair is still same color with sprinkling of grey...she is in 70's and has never colored. Oh, and my skin is always as light as you see in pic.

Thanks! Susan

The lighten up theory for hair as we age is due to the fact that the skin and hair naturally change as we age...grey hair and a paler complexion. If your hair is greying and you color it, you need to take into account that your skin is also changing. If your natural hair color is very dark, or in your case black, and you are greying, then the suggestion would be to lighten a bit when you color to go with your change in complexion. If you aren't greying yet, then you don't need to change your natural color, since your complexion is not changing either.
