Hair Colour Problem

by Brooke
(Williamsburg, ON)

My hair is naturally dirty blonde. About three years ago i dyed it a light brown, then i dyed it basically black from a box, which faded (thank goodness!)And then recently, i got it professionally dyed a rich dark brown with sutle red hints. My eyebrows are really dark, almost black, and my eyes are green. I love the dark brown with red hints (think sophia bush...check pics on google) except that my roots grow in so fast! And they aren't even a real colour..it almost looks grey, but in some spots; it's like dirty blonde. So my question is what would the best colour for me to dye my hair so that i don't have to keep dying it every couple months to get rid of roots? Could i go a blonde? Or would it not look good because of my pale skin and dark eyebrows? Or is there a way to keep the dark brown and stop these roots!! Please help!! Thanks!!

Love Brooke

Hi Brooke,

Unfortunately, there's no way to stop the roots. You could have your hair highlighted (to a medium blonde-not super light) to add back some blonde and even things out a bit. Then after that, you could start letting your natural color grow back in and add a few low-lights (dark color to blend with the dark still on your ends).

That way, your regrowth wouldn't be as noticeable and you could simply have more lowlights added every 3 months or so. That part is easily done at home using some foils.

More about foiling hair

Let me know if any of that is unclear.

Of course, you'd lose the drama that a rich, dark color can provide, but the maintenance wouldn't be such a chore, so it might be a fair trade-off.

All the best,
