hair dye allergy

hi iam a 51 woman whose hair is or was naturally red, and for many years have dyed blonde well tryed to at least, never quite getting it right but a shade of blonde never the less, anyway my problem is on my last attempt i did the 48hour test on the inside of my elbow and the next day the area where i put the dye was verry red as though i had been burned, the nurse i saw said it was a reaction to the dye a dermatitas, so i didnt dye my hair for quite some time then i tryed a herbal dye which just made my hair orange, anyway that was sometime ago and ive not dyed my hair since, but iam so desperate i have grey at the temples and roots and its just makeing me so depressed as i care verry much about my apperance even more so as iam not getting any younger, can you please offer some advice on what i can do.
