Well , i done my own highlights a few months ago and it came out in a mess so I paid alot to go get them fixed then I had lovely blonde highlights. My natural hair colour is brown but now there nearly half way down my hair and i really want to get rid of them , i want to dye over them but i read about your highlights could turn a funny colour Is this true? or will my highlights just dye the colour i want them to and blend in with my whole hair colour?

how to dye over highlights
by: Anonymous

I have actual experience with this and my hair is med-dark brown. I had blond highlights put in 2010 summer and I wanted them lighter so a Sallys rep gave me a toner and developer that was supposed to make my highlights platinum. I asked if this would lighten my brown hair they said no. However it did so I was left with this mess.
I bought a Natural Instincts temporary hair dye in medium ash brown. I put it in all over and let it stay in an additional 5 minutes.
It was darker brown for the first 20 days, then started washing out lighter.
I repeated the same dye after 35 days, and let it naturally wash out and its very close to my natural hair color.
This process did not damage my hair at all.
Hope this helps you, good luck q(^-^)p

When coloring light blonde highlights, u should put a golden brown so that it won't come out that grey color !

I have nearly the same problem. I have blonde highlights all over my head with a few medium blonde/very light orange parts at the bottom. I cannot afford to go to the salon anymore and i found the perfect colour THAT I LOVE: nice n easy 101 natural baby blonde. The thing is although the colour of my highlights is only a bit darker that the packet dye, I am scared that the highlights will come out too light or my regrowth (mousy light brown) will be a completely different colour.. PLEASE HELP!

I go blonde every summer and my natural colour is dark brown. When the regrowth happens i just buy brown colour and cover it. Some parts you get a lighter brown shade where the highlights are but it looks really nice. Never had an issue with colouring over my blonde highlights. I have only used Loreal colour when doing it though.

my hair is a med brown, went to get my hair done are the hairdresser turned my whole top of my head blond(brassy orange) not flattering color, while the bottom was very dark, couldnt stand it and colored it all back a DARK brown but still want highlights and low lights on only my crown but am very nervous to get it done again. Any suggestions on how to translate this to my hairdresser???????
