Hair product too much protein

Just used K-Pak Reconstructor (about 1-2T) on my long, very fine, highlighted hair. My hair apparently absorbed too much protein and is dry and sticky. I assumed this product simply washed out after a couple washings but has not after three. Is there a safe way to expedite removal? How long does it usually remain in the hair? I'm a little paranoid because I've used some strong protein treatments in the past which seemed to remain in hair until the hair grew out. I'd previously had luck with K-Pak, but my hair responded differently this time for some reason. Thanks.

too much protein

Along with the protein, your hair needs a moisturizing conditioner. Too much protein can make the hair brittle and prone to breakage.

I'd use a good clarifying shampoo to get rid of any product residue that might be making your hair feel 'sticky' and then use just the K-Pak Moisturizer for the first conditioning treatment.

Then, after you've replaced some of the moisture, follow the instructions in our hair treatment article to use Joico's protein and moisture conditioners together.

Hope this helps,
