Help with tangled hair

This is my second time trying to grow my hair out, and once again I'm having the same problem I had before. My hair gets very tangled at the base of my neck, sometimes multiple times in a day it will turn into a huge rat's nest. It isn't ratting on the ends just at the base of my neck and my hair extends 4 to 5 inches below that. My hair seems to be very healthy. Hairdressers are always complimenting on how silky my hair is. My hair isn't dyed and I have been using Ojon products. Last time I solved this problem by chopping it off. Is there a better alternative?

i have the same problem - i almost get a dreadlock in the back if i wear a high collar! my hair is very fine and straight but i have *lot* of it.

i use a product like smoothing serum or leave-in conditioner every day to help solve the problem. i also tend to do better with haircuts that are not extremely long, and blunt cuts in the back seem to help prevent tangling (long layering seems *designed* for tangles in my hair!).
