by Lia Kendall
(Roseland,FL )

My hair is normaly medium brown my husband paid to get it highlighted blonde for Valentines Day they did a full foil and it turned out quite nice.
Unfortuneatly when it came time to redo it we couldn't afford it as the price she quoted me before changed. So I went to Sallys bought (ion 10a-10.1)lightest Ash Blonde 30 Extra Lift volume cream stableizer and Red Gold corrector plus 3.6 ml. and now all my hair that wasn't colored or foiled including my 3 1/2 inch roots are strawberry blonde what can I do?
PLEASE HELP!!!!
Sincerly,
Lia

Hi Lia,

The high lift blondes (even professional ones) often aren't strong enough to counteract the predominant orange tones in darker hair. To get it lighter now, you will need to bleach and tone, being careful not to get any bleach or toner on the previous highlights (which I'm assuming are the color you want them to be). Another, simpler alternative is to go darker, which is just a basic color deposit and can be done with semi-permanent (no-ammonia) color, preventing further damage and evening out the tones.

As a colorist, what I would do to correct this in someone who wanted to keep a highlighted look is to foil in highlights and lowlights. That is quite a process for home hair coloring, but it would give the best results.

Hope this helps,
Michelle
