While going to a professional is ALWAYS is the best first choice, unfortunately many people will not pay the price to have hair color done correctly from the beginning..they jusy come to us after the damage has been done!
You are asking a very complex question & failing to see our dilema in answering you; there are many factors we can't see, such as your hairs porosity, texture, color, contributing pigments & damage..plus what actual end results that you want. There are many tones, cool & warm that words from a client can not properly describe to get proper advice, hence the real need to put our education as stylists to work by coming into a salon or cosmetology school (cheap prices under supervision!) to allow us to help you!
Also, to remove color from previously colored hair, one does not use lightener, but an actual color remover for that purpose. This process is not one to be done at home. I cant see you, & dont have time enough to explain how the various parts of your hair shaft process differently & how to be a do-it-yourself expert on a subject that most professionals take a continued education for years into their career to deal with just your kind of issue. So please, my advice? Let a professional help you & be happy with results you want the FIRST time! Make sure you are truthful with all past products used, how long ago & bring pictures of what you want! Use the protein reconstructors that they suggest & proper maintenance products. Stay away from store bought products, especially those made-to-fit-all box colors! Good luck, Liana (recently graduated cosmetolgy student!)
