How to go back to natural colour?

by Alice
(Australia)

My natural hair colour is a light to medium ash blonde with lots of highlights.
About six months ago I bleached it until it was almost white, but got sick of it very quickly. When I tried to dye it back to it's natural colour it went almost black. Since then it has faded to a very light goldeny brown, that is only three or so shades away from my natural colour, but with a very different tone.
I've got about three inches of regrowth now and I really want my natural colour back. I went to a hair colour shop and bought the colour and bleach mix they recommended for me. The woman said to to my roots, then in the last 15 or so minutes to bring the colour down into the rest of it. (My hair is chin length). To me it sounds like I should be doing the opposite, since the ends are darker? Please help!

It seems like that but since your roots are brand new hair and the rest has been processed so much already, the processed hair is going to pick up the color a lot faster than your roots so the dye doesn't need to be on as long.

If you don't feel comfortable doing your whole head you could try asking your colorist to do highlights that way you would be almost your natural color but it wouldn't be too noticeable if it didn't turn out exactly right

Advice of a Stylist
by: Roni

COLOR WON'T LIFT COLOR. Ok, so if they gave you bleach to apply all over they are dumb. What I recommend you do is this: Return your products and tell them you want a color remover. There are products like Malibu Wellness that will remove all the artificial color in your hair and not touch your natural color. I would apply that only to the golden brown part not the regrowth. Rinse and then apply an all over semi-permanent color that is within 1 level of your natural color and holds the same tonal value. Most people would probably argue that it will turn your hair green but if you know the color wheel you will agree with me. The best thing you can do is go to a professional but if you insist on doing it yourself this will help.
