i have stripped my hair from black and it has gone orange

i have had glossy black hair for 5 years!! (dyed)i was desperate to remove it so i used a live pre lightener, it went dark red. not satisfied the same day i also put a boots lightest blonde on it and it turned bright orange, the next day i had it stripped at the hair dressers and it made no difference really and half my hair snapped off leaving it brittle fluffy and orange. i have now put on a light brown permanant dye and its gone like a dirty rope colour. like oil. i am using hair masks by aussie and loads of serum and will give it a break but what can i do when its in better condition to lighten it further i want it champagne blonde eventually. i could kick myself for dying it black in the first place. will it need stripping again or is there a semi permanant dye that will work or if i used a pre lightener on this dark blonde will it go ginger or go a lighter blonde xxxxxx

black hair turning orange
by: Anonymous

i had the same problem but i was medium brown and i tried to dye it blonde it went orange then turned ginger and then light brown now it is golden blonde. if you started out stripping with bleach and it turned orange you should have left it alone until you got moisture back in it and then bleached it again it would have turned blonde.if your hair is ginger color now go to beauty supply place and buy hair color in level 6 which is a shade of brown but make sure it is aa ash base with blue in it it will say cool blondes if it is loreal brand this worked for me got rid of red tones and then i used luminize hair lightener for 10 minutes over a course of 5 week and got to a medium blonde hope this helps good luck

luminize

if you have a sallys in your area go there if not look in phone book for beauty supplies. again luminize is gentle on hair it also adds moisture back in your hair and if you don't want red tones use ash base also if your hair is brittle and dry there are natural stuff you can use like mayo olive oil or just buy a good bottle of pantene hydrating and repair conditioner or treseme brand are good leave conditioner in for 30 to 1 hour rinse don't shampoo for 1 weekdo this daily you will notice a difference depending on how dry your hair is. also i have found from my mistake of dying hair it is safer to keep lightning rather than frying your hair all at once so keep this in mind next time. after your hair gets light enough and you can always dye it blonder but remember color doesn't lift color it only adds and lightning will take a few weeks so be patient but it wont be dry.

mix 2oz of luminize developer and 2oz of luminize lightner put in hair like shampoo or hair dye leave in hair for 10 to 20 minutes wash out and condition blow dry. air dry ect. its real simple if you don't need conditioner don't use it.

Black to BLONDE

I am a professional Colourist, I quite often have to deal with people who have wrecked their hair like this. All I can say is there is not a magical way to get your hair blonde.

I would suggest that you do not put anything more on your hair without doing a strand test first.

Because your hair has gone a brassy colour you will need to put a colour on it which has blue underlying pigments in it to neutralize the orange tones but this could also send your hair a very drab lifeless colour (hence the strand test). It will probably also make your hair appear very dry and brittle..

Dont keep stripping out the colour because your hair will have such a build up of colour on it. it will never go a nice shade of blonde and will end up looking like cotton wool.

I'd advise you to have lots of very fine back to back highlights (blond and dark ash blonde) every 6 -8 week and eventually you will be able to adjust the colours to suit your hair. It is something best left to a professional.
Good Luck

me again

well im back a year after writing this thread and after all the coffuffle i ended up goin semi permanant brown for the most of last year to repair the fluffy orange snappy hair-see orginal comment.

I then went for a strand test even after bein advised it wasnt ready i just did it myself with a jerome russell bleach- it took it the famous orange again but i got about two inches (roots) of ice blonde, my friend went over it two weeks later with a loreal highlighting kit, didnt highlight just slapped it on, its now a pale yellow which is better than last time, ill just persivere but i reccommend gettin some hair extensions like the bands you can put in yourself as its in bands you only really see the top layer of hair so it kind of looks better. :(
