It's both...
by: Michelle

Hi Mariya,

Your hair can be considered either dark blonde or light brown, depending on who you're talking to. How people describe the color isn't what's really important though. What matters is the LEVEL, according to the International hair color level system.

Check out the haircolor chart here. Your hair would be considered a level 7. This is what you need to consider when coloring your hair. If you're lightening, you'll encounter the yellow/orange underlying pigment characteristic of a level 7 haircolor.

All the best,

Medium Brown
by: Anonymous

Your hair is very clearly brown. I don't see why anyone would ever call it blonde. I've heard some Hispanic people refer all white people as "blondes", and maybe that is where you got the "I'm a blonde" idea from? Just a guess. Nice hair though.

I will like to have that hair color!
by: Anonymous

I think it's light brown and it doesn't have to do anything with what people say(in general not a specific ethnicity). The comment above was a little to naive.

dark blond 100%
by: Anonymous

It is dark blond. It has more green than red in it. One of the most undervalued however most classy and stylish colors. Do not change it!

Blonde
by: Anonymous

Your hair is dark blonde level 7 or 7.5. with a neutral (green) base. If you want to change it add some warm highlights not gold, but honey, caramel or toffee.

dark blond
by: Anonymous

Strictly speaking this is a dark blond (yes with a green base, which makes it trully unique and classy). This is one of the hardest colors to replicate, so i suggest you do not touch it...it is really classy!. if you wish to play it up a bit, just add very few highlights one or two levels up, with golden tones (to warm it up a bit).

Chestnut Brown by Clairol Professionals
by: g

i'm sure chestnut brown 46d clairol professionals will match perfectly. it's light ash brown with green (drab) undertone which will keep your haircolor non brassy. medium blond/golden blond highlights as you get gray hairs coming in as you age will be great on you. louis luccari in the beverly hills salon gave me this color to match my hair (which i think is exactly your color) 20 years ago and it's still great on me. thought i'd pass it on. g.

You are a dark blonde
by: Anonymous

Blond hair is associated with lighter eye color (gray, blue, and green) and white skin tone.

your hair is ashy brown
by: Anonymous

I think most people where I live would call your hair blond in the sun, but brown in indoor incandescent light. You have very nice coloring and should do nothing dramatic to change your color. Artificial dyes do not reflect light the same way. If you put blond highlights in around your face and along your part, that would likely work, but please do not do anything dramatic.

definetly dark blonde
by: Anonymous

your hair is a great example of dark blonde, such hair lightens easily in the sun, and looks brighter outdoors, but takes on more of the brown hues indoors. You shouldnt color it.

well i think it s between light brown and dark brown.i m man from Estonia(north east Europe).i have the same problem with you. my beard is also very light almost white. There is alot of blonds and almost everybody have light or light brown hair. we don`t have black haired estonians, only if someone is mixed.i think people from southern Europe say you have blonde hair because they have darker hair. you can`t relly say it s light brown or it s dark blonde. it s between of them. maybe it s the darkest blond. it looks dark blonde on your head. you should uploud more pictures of you in the sun and in the light.

Your hair is lovely-- I love the color. It's close to my color and I have the same problem, some people think it's light brown and some dark blond. I have more red in mine however. I wouldn't change it-- it's really pretty.

dark blond... and that's that
by: West

I have the same color hair, except perhaps a very small touch warmer undertone, and my Stylist said it is a ~Level 7 Dark Blonde~ She was fixing my lower, previously dyed, hair to match my very grown out roots and matched it perfectly with the lv 7 Dark Blond on her hair swatch ring thing and we even had this same discussion. So according to a professional hair stylist and her professional hair key, you are a dark blond.... unfortunately it is a very under rated hair color but beautiful none the less

The name of your hair color is Dark Ash Blonde. And naturally have some Natural Blonde or Dark Blonde colored highlights in it.

What color do you want to do it?

I have the same exact natural hair color as you. I started getting my hair professionally highlighted blonde when I was in 7th grade, and it turned out pretty good when the hair dresser would do it for me. For 5-6 years after that I had been going back and forth in between going to the salon to get blonde highlights, and buying boxes off the shelf and doing it myself at home. And every time I did it with a box off the shelf, I made sure to buy colors that were Ash toned, which are designed to prevent your hair from turning out orange or brassy colored, and every time I ever tried it, my hair would turn out orange-y.

Now I am 18 and just recently started to realize that I don't even like the way the lighter blonde looks next to my darker eyebrows anymore and my skin tone, even done by a professional who does a good job: its just the color I don't like anymore and am now wishing I had my natural hair color back that matched my eyebrows and had that natural subtle blonde highlight. Personally, I don't like the way the the light blonde color treated hair looks on anyone with this natural hair color anymore. I've even started to let my natural hair color grow out now, and when I was too impatient to wait for that, I even tried to dye it back my natural color with a box off the shelf, that was Ash toned, and what do you know, once again, it turned my hair back darker, but it was ORANGE-Y DARKER! Since then, I've left my hair alone for almost 2 months and like the color of my roots, but my tips are still too blonde, and am going back to a professional this week, (only because I'm going to a wedding this weekend) to have her help me get back to my natural color, and once I am back to it, if I ever do get back to it, I probably will never color treat my hair again, until it turns gray.

I hope this helps you make your decision, if you haven't already.

you have clearly brown hair! there's no way it could be called blonde. come here to finland to see real blondes.

Definitely blonde
by: Anonymous

Yes, I would say you're hair is dark blonde. Many people, though, consider only very pale, 'yellow' blonde to be blonde - which is why the confusion in some of the answers here, with people asking where the blonde in your hair is!
Your hair, like mine, will look quite obviously a shade of blonde under bright sunlight, but more 'brownish' indoors.
Like some others have said, I'd agree with you being a 7 - which is three steps from the typical baby blonde that most people imagine is the only blonde out there...
But don't change it too much - it is a very pretty colour!

it s dirty blond (darker blond)
by: dirty blond

i have same hair color. actually it s named dirty blond. altough many people wanna say it s light brown, it s actually not brown color any more, above your head you can clearly see, it s not brown. the room is dark and you have a little bit curly hair and it hides the light, that s because it looks brown, you have to go outside to get better light and wiew. my cousin has also same hair color, i ve allways wondered what his hair color is. he has short about 3-4 cm hair. his hair color is not brown, his hair looks light, but it s not stereo type blond like light blonds, but it s light hair. allays when i see a person with this hair color, it dosen' t look like it s brown. it looks ashy. it s just very dark blond.

I have the same problem :/
by: blueberry

Argh! I know! I have the exact same hair colour and i can never work out if I have light brown or dark blonde.. its just an annoying in-between colour
I also wanted to change my hair colour but everyone kept telling me what a nice colour it was and how it had amazing high lights and low lights so I didnt change it, and I'm glad I didn't because your natural hair colour is really what suits you best
But i do think it would be a really dark blonde or maybe both.. either way, don't change your hair colour, it looks nice on you! :)
well hoped that helped..

Light Golden Brown
by: Anonymous

For the record. It all depends on what level of lightness your hair color is, not the tone.

Level 6 is Light Brown
Level 7 is Dark Blonde
Anything higher than 7 is blonde

Everyone's monitor is different and photo lighting varies, so nobody on here can really say what your color truly is without having a swatch next to you. From my monitor it looks like you have light golden brown hair with dark blonde highlights.

Brunette, obviously.
by: Anonymous

No offense, but I can't think of any reason to call your hair blonde other than the fact that many people want to think they are a natural blonde. You just aren't. Some seem to be sparing your feelings. You are obviously a brunette, near to a medium one at that (not so much light either)

catty?
by: katie

Why are some of the comments on here slightly aggressive? There are lots of shades of blonde not just really light. The last comment about people wanting to spare your feelings, and some people just like to think they are natural blonde is plain weird. What is so special about being a natural blonde. Beautiful hair comes in all colours. I would say it was dark blonde but also light brown, both which I know isnt much help, but that last comment really irritated me, and the person who wrote it is clearly a bit daft.

Silly people on here
by: Stefanie

Totally agree on with the comment before this one, why would natural blonde be better than brown? I have the same haircolour, and tbh I'd prefer it to be brown because I think it just happens to be more classy than blonde, so please go away with your weird assumptions.

Aside from that, I do think we are very dark blondes. Brown hair is more reddish, our colour is more yellowish. I personally don't like it too much :(

I would say your hair is light brown with blonde highlights. My cousin's hair is the same color as yours.

Your hair is dark blonde
by: Thunder

and it is GORGEOUS!!!!!! May I suggest that if you want to break up the all one color appearance of it, get a couple of very subtle blonde highlights (bleached) by a good hair colorist!!! But don't do anything more because the color of your hair is beautiful. You can't buy your haircolor in a box or get that great color from a stylist, it is unique!!

Jun 22, 2011
beautiful either way :)
by: Anonymous

eh its both i thinks it ligt brown/dark blond either way it beautiful

Aug 12, 2011
It's definitely blonde!!!
by: A real dark blonde

I have the same haircolor. I have finally found the exact color and it is dark golden blonde. Anyone who says its not blonde has no idea what they are talking about. There are many shades of blonde. A professional would tell you the same thing. People who say its not blonde just dont know that there are many shades of blonde. For those of you who say its not blonde ask a professional!!! They actually know. No offense, but it is blonde. Find out for yourselves.

It depends! But I love your hair colour.
by: Christiane

Well, as I am from Sweden and got used to seeing yellowish pale blonde hair, your hair is called "light brown" in Sweden. But for a Hispanic or an Indian you are blonde! I think it depends on the nationality and the region someone is from. Very beautiful, by the way. It seems to have an ashy undertone, something which is very common here in Scandinavia. The reddish-ginger undertones are rather Irish or Scottish.

Zlatokosa Marija
by: Sarah

As your haircolor is associated with blue eyes (from what I see in the photo) and light skin, I think you are rather considered a "dark blonde". If you kept this haircolor but had brown eyes and medium brownish skin, then you would be called a "light brunette". Se najdobro Marija!

your hair is a level 6
by: Silasthestylist

I've been a hair stylist for 17 yearsand salon owner now for 13 years and my hair is naturally dark blond. Many people have an perception problem when it comes to this shade. I was born tow headed and now it's a lot darker. I've had people tell me my hair was dark strawberry, dark golden, light brown and dirty blond. If it get's dirty from too much product buildup and then I clarify it everyone says did you lighten your hair? I would say your hair is a natural level six dark blond and it's not drab but natural.

châtain
by: Marie

In french, this color is called "châtain", which the sort of equivilent in English would be "chestnut", but it's not used the same as in French. It's the type of hair color that is a light brown, that looks blonde in the sun light. It would probably lighten in the summer, too. It's different than a brunette color, which are more of a solid brown.

Why is there even a debate about this...

Unless you have pictures where it looks brighter, then it's clearly brown hair. Nothing blond about it. :P

24m
by: Anonymous

haha... it's very funny here. I am a 24 male from Bulgaria and I think i have almost the same haircolour as yours. Different people - different views. Somebody say its light brown, others dark blonde. I searched for the exact term on the hair level scales and it says .. level 7 dark blonde (it's not considered brown). Although I've been considering myself blonde since I was a "real" blonde as a kid and I see no reason to call my hair light brown, since there was nothing brown in it originally. :)
Keep your natural hair color! Good luck! :)
