No-Bleach lighter Coloring
by: Donna in Ct.

Carly, is your dark brown hair "virgin? If you have never used a color product on your hair before, you can use any permanent color to go about two shades lighter, or even more if you are able to get a higher volume developer than what comes packaged in over-the-counter brands. Semi-permanent and "wash-out" colors do not have the capability of lifting hair color. They deposit color only & will not lighten hair. Permanent colors are capable of lifting AND depositing color. However, they cannot lighten previously colored hair. Darker artificial colors need to be removed either with special color reducers, or bleach.

Redken makes Hi-Lift tints that are capable of lifting hair up to a level 12 without using bleach. You should go to a professional for assistance with getting the color you desire.
