My natural dark blond hair turned red after coloring

Hi, I have seen similar posts, but my difference is that I do have highlights; here it is:
My natural color is dirty/dark blond with very very slight goldish tone. I used to do highlights for years and my hair, always nice light blond (not yellow). Recently I decided to go back to my natural color and make just a few thin highlights (brushed on in the front, and down parts, so overall I wanted all dark (as my natural color is) with a touch of sun. Well I went to hairdresser and she did the color what came out a lot darker than my natural color (she put dark ash blond) and left few of my "old" blond highlights.

And after just one wash my hair tured brassy orange/red especially in the roots!!! It shows a lot in the Sun!
I went back to my hairdresser and she said there is nothing we can do since I must have red in my hair, that is why it is turning red. Well i dont believe her at all, my hair never turned red, it was always nice and ashy.

How can I fix it myslef?? I also want to leave my blond highlights where they are.
thank you so much for help!

If you have red, only bleach can get it out
by: Red Sox Babe

Sorry girl. I've struggled with this for years and have tried everything. The only way to get rid of red is bleach, and its not worth it unless you have baby fine hair, and the damage actually makes it look thicker. I've even tried going black, and guess what, still red. You might be better off just getting highlights instead of trying an overall color. :(

thank you! but it is really hard to believe.. I dont think that eg. all celebrities with dirty blond (who is getting gray) dye their hair back into dirty blond and they are all red now?? It has to be a way..

Its the tones

You might not visibly be able to see the red in your hair, with mine you can't. Its really more of an undertone, but its in there. No matter what color I dye it comes out looking red unless its bleached. I hope I'm wrong, because it stinks always having your hair turn out red.

No red

My hair is brown with definate red tones, however, I have been using a product called OOPS and it is not bleach but brings your hair down to a very nice medium blonde and then you can highlight if you want to without any red.
