natural blonde to light brown

by Jacqui

I am a natural medium golden blonde. I do have very light blonde highlights, especially on the ends. I also have a significant amount of regrowth. Everytime I try to go darker, it turns very orange and brassy. I've been thinking about going light brown or dark blonde, but I do not want the orange/brassy tones. I am also afraid that my light blonde highlights will look green if I apply an ash color. How can I make the switch and avoid the brassy disaster that I have experienced so many times?!

Not Too Difficult

It might be a good idea to start your transition by "filling" your past highlights. You can do this easily by applying a semi-permanent color to the highlighted areas only, choosing a shade that's halfway between the actual color they are, and the color you eventually want. Leave on the hair for 10 minutes, rinse and dry. Then apply a permanent ash shade of your light brown or dark blonde, and you should have a nice even color without worrying about any offcast. No green, but no brassiness either. Good Luck.
