natural color!?

My hair is naturally light brown - dark blonde, but I've been dying it darker for a year and a half, one day I decided to go blonde from dark brown BIG MISTAKE!!! ended up with patchy ginger hair. so obviously died it back to dark brown, which took a few attempts and also had to strip my hair - came out an even worse colour then when I tried to dye it blonde! All I want to do now is go back to my natural colour or close to it. I dyed my hair dark brown about four months ago and havent applied any more dye to it, my natural colour is now starting to come back in patches! it looks really bad! And I;m worried if i strip it then it will go back to that orangey colour that it turned to when I last stripped it, and I dont want to try and dye it to a lighter brown for the worry of it going orange aswell as some parts of my hair are still quite dark - what should I do?
