Once you go black you never go....blonde?

Hello! I have been wanting to change up my hair for SUCH a long time. i always dye it dark brown and its always been really long. However, i saw a girls hair that was super short and platinum blonde and i fell IN LOVE. Ive always said i would never consider dying my hair blonde...ever, but this girl's hair is toooooo amazing ! I know with the bleach it supposively damages your hair to maintain it but people do ! I think i have fairish skin or almost an olive tone so i dont know how well it would look on me or if it would was me out. Please help me decide ! i need some fun hair ! :(

I also have long dark hair. Its true that it will damage your hair terribly, not because of the first process itself, but the constant bleaching that you will have to do to maintain it. Since your hair is so dark it won't be possible as it would for a dark blonde to go longer between colorings unless you want a black stripe down the middle of your head. :P Good luck. I know very short blonde hair is cute. I have envied people that had that effortless looking hair with a tiny bit of lavender or pink through their bangs. Its easier for me to keep my long hair and buy the occasional colorful clip in.

I would take your hair through stages FIRST since you've been going dark for a long time. If you're around a dark or medium brown, I would go up about 3 or 4 levels. If you have artificial pigment, you would have to remove the old color to apply the newer shade. The darker the color, the more difficult it is to remove from the hair. Going slowly will not only give you an idea about how it may look (final color & style), but give your hair enough time to lighten without, or with minimum, damage. What's the point of having beautiful color on damaged hair? Within in a few months (up to a year), you'll be where you want OR, you may change your mind during the journey and go for something different.

Do the same with your cut. Trim off about 3 to 4 inches off at a time. This way you can enjoy the many different styles without being fully committed to short hair. Having your hair long for so long, you may go into shock. Again, during the journey to short, you may change your mind/style.

Hope this helps.
