Hormones...

Hi Norry,

I wouldn't recommend perming for at least 6 months, or closer to a year. Hormonal changes in your body as a result of pregnancy alter your hair and its reaction to chemicals. You could end up with little or no curl OR a tight frizzy curl, and there's no way to know until the damage is done.

Even after letting your hair grow out, the effects of the hormones don't leave the hair that grew during your pregnancy, so you may not get consistent results all the way down the hair shaft. I'm not a fan of perms at the best of times, but certainly not during puberty or during/after pregnancy.

If you want to add some wave to your hair, try the curly hair style techniques detailed in this article. Even if you have only a slight bend in your hair, these styling tips can help you maximize that movement and encourage curls you didn't even know you had!

All the best,
Michelle
