perm turns white hair yellow

I permed an elderly lady with white hair. I removed all medications first with shampoo and baking soda. Her hair turned yellow the next day or two. I asked her if her water was rusty, she said no. She doesn't smoke. Her hair has never turned yellow on me before, I just can't figure this out. Can you tell me why, and how to get the yellow out?

Baking Soda too harsh?

I'm not sure of the impact of the baking soda on the hair and what state t leaves the hair. Try using something that's made for deep cleansing. I prefer Redken Pre-Art, it leaves the hair it good shape and is easy to use with or with out heat.

That being said... There are many reasons white hair can turn yellow. The one that escapes most peoples mind is product. If you are using a gel/mousse that has a yellow cast/shade to it the porous hair will take on that color. I've had it happen to a client that does no chemicals and only gets her hair styled in the salon. Try using a shampoo for grey hair, usually has a blue or violet tint to it. This will hide the yellow and keep the white bright.

my white hair has spots of yellow and I tried the gray hair shampoo and I end up with blue hair with yellow it really does not work, I was terrible disapointed, will not use it again

Try deep cleansing shampoo

Did you try deep cleansing?
If your hair is porous you will pick up the pigment from the product. i recommend Matrix's So Silver Shampoo with a purple/violet tint to counteract the yellow. This shampoo and others like it should not replace your daily shampoo.
