PLEASE HELP! HAIR COLOR DISASTER...

by Andrea
(North Carolina)

I've been coloring my hair blonde, for about 3 years. My natural hair color is brunette. I've been going to a professional all the time, but since I moved away, I started doing it myself. Last time I did it, it turned out a little orange on the roots, so I decided to go to a salon to have it fixed. When I got there she told me, it was easy to do, and she started to put a lot of a blue product all over my head, she left it there for about an hour. When she rinsed it all off, my hair was BLUE!! LITERALLY!!! I don't know how, she managed to take the blue out, but I left with my hair with a red, orange, blonde, brown mix, with even some blue in random spots. So, I got a hair color remover the next day, and now my hair is completely ORANGE! At least is even, but still I would like to fix it. Is not really bad at the ends, but is bright orange on the roots. I don't know if maybe I should dye it dark blonde or, light brown, until I can go to a good salon, and have it fixed. What do you think? I need help ASAP!!!!! Thank youuuu!!!

omg hunny i have done this, i have been in your position. what i did was went to a hair dye store. preferably "Sally's" idk if you have that where you live. anyways, buy a bleaching kit, apply it to your hair, when it gets as light as you want it, wash it out. also youll need to buy a toner, you pick what color toner that you would like, after rinsing the bleach out, apply the toner from root to tip, leave it on for atleast 30 minutes. then rinse it out. youll be fine after that, atleast until you can get to a professional and it doesnt cost much. when you saw her putting the blue in your hair, it was a toner. what she did wrong was: not applying it on wet hair, leaving it in too long, and not bleaching the original color out.
obviously she had no idea what she was doing.

just remember after you bleach it out, you HAVE to apply the toner on TOWEL DRIED hair. so your hair will still be damp and wet. the toner should turn a different color, dont worry, that just means you mixed it up right. make sure you have a professional at the store help you find the right stuff. you should be leaving the store with three things. a bleaching kit, hair toner, and hair developer. i would probably by a bottle to mix the toner and stuff in. it could get really messy.

This is what has happened.

The blue stuff she put on your hair was peroxide it was used to lift the color to the blonde you wanted. Hair that is darker goes through stages of color orange then like a golden rod then gold. Usually, blue and purple is used to counter act the the golds. She didn't lift you all the way for it to be orange. Now you have to understand some people have RED tendencies. Meaning you might have your hair a certain blonde for a time but if you have natural red highlights or a brown shade removing it will go towards red ( orange) Highlights after awhile will blend in with red so that is what has happened.
You are either going have to have it colored one color which would be one shade all over. and grow it out and keep getting it cut. Or have it stripped completely with bleach then pick out a toner ( color) to cover the bleached hair. You can't just walk around with bleached hair for many reasons.
You need a colorist. Not your average stylist. Call ask questions before going .
