Rats nest...

I have long and thick hair. Its down to my elbows. Normally needs to be brushed out twice or more times a day to keep tangles or a nest out. Friday I brushed it once due to busy schedule, now i have a huge rats nets type thing in it. I sat all day saturday trying to get it out. Needless to say I only got a portion of it out after all that work. Tried washing it and it only got worse. I was going to have it cut and donate it but they wont take it in this condition. Please help! I've never had one this bad before.

Have you tried using a load of conditioner on it when washing it? A really intensive one should do the trick, and use a wide toothed comb while the conditioner is in. Hope that helps
