(Brampton)

this was done by a professional! I have been doing my own highlights with redken for years.. I finally decided to go and get a few red lowlights and blonde highlights.... i went to a professional... ahem... anyhow.. as the day went on my "purple" yes purple went into my existing blonde ends and now I have a head of purple . what I want to do is add more blonde highlights to get rid of this purple and maybe pick out the purple and change it to brown as the purple looks awful ( please note I did ask for red but since all of this I want something safe and normal I can do on my own as I am NOT paying for someone to mess my hair up ! ) by the way I asked her to correct it and she is "way to busy until after Christmas!!!" nice i have to go to Christmas functions with purple streaks and ends! ughh I'm sorry to vent .. please help!

Hi Dawn,

Sorry to hear about your haircolor ordeal. Your assessment of how to deal with it is good. Use foils to apply both highlights and lowlights. Do the lowlights first so that they have a chance to fully process because the speed at which the purple lightens out of the highlights determines the timing for rinsing them all, and that lifting could happen quickly.

Using a toner in a golden blonde color should help to zap out any remaining purple cast. Golds contain a lot of yellow pigments, which neutralize purple. You may want to use permanent color (rather than semi or demi permanent) for the lowlights so that there's less of a chance of the brown color leeching into the blonde afterwards.

Hope this helps! Happy holidays, despite the unwanted hues in your hair! :)

All the best,
Michelle
