Deeper tones
by: Michelle

Hi Myra,

Because the grey becomes more concentrated as time passes, it becomes necessary to add some deeper tones to your haircolor to prevent the washed out look.

Use the same strawberry blonde color and also buy a light golden brown shade. Mix the two together (start with 2 parts strawberry, 1 part golden brown) and apply.

This will keep your color close to the same tone while adding a bit more depth.

If you find the results too brown, try the same thing but replace the golden brown with a copper color. Go easy on the copper though as it will contain some very strong red pigments (try 1 part copper to 3 parts strawberry).

Hope this helps!

All the best,
Michelle

I am a natural strawberry blonde and as I am aging I an finding that I have blonde hair and need to find a color so when I go back to my natural color I don't wash out but have some color. I am very white and burn easily, What can I do with mt hair? I tried and ended up with dark brownish hair on bottom and dark red on top.
Its too dark for my skin

I am in the same situation as Debbie. Redheads/Strawberry blonds skip the grey stage and go to white - hence we get blonder every day.
Should we let it go, color or try a henna to brighten up?

helping redheads who go gray
by: Anonymous

I'm a natural redhead, turning snow white. It is shiny and looks like diamonds in the sun, but my face is also so white that I look just too faded.
So it's really an individual thing and I want to look the best that I can. Some people look great in gray or white hair. I don't think I do. So...I've been using Revlon's Strawberry Blonde, and I leave it on 45 minutes. My hair gets dry, so I do not shampoo it but about every 3rd or
4th day. When I recolor it, I do that after the white shows just too much, and then I put it on my roots all over my head, leaving out the rest until the last 5 or 10 minutes. It's long enough to use two kits, so I usually have some left to apply towards the end. It's usually pretty red when I first color it, but the first shampoo tones it down a lot. There are color keeping shampoos on the market now that help not strip the color.

If I get a perm, that makes the hair a lot more porous and so it holds the color better. If the ends are too dark, you can get a light blonde color to put just on them for about 15 minutes, then wash it off, and after it has been dried, then you can recolor your hair, leaving the color on the ends no more than 5 or 10 minutes for when you put the red color on.

Clairol's Natural Instincts have a medium golden blonde and and several auburn shades. I think if you don't want to color your hair with permanent color that you can use that (it lasts many many
shampoos) and use mostly the medium golden blonde, and mix in a little of the light red shade such as spiced tea, or one even a bit lighter. A little red goes a long way. I'd snip off a few strands and test the color mixture and time it and see how they come out. They did have a shade called Saharan Red that was reddish blonde, but they just recently discontinued it. If they get enough calls for it, they might bring it back. It colors the hair softly, but the best shade will be the permanent color. By the way, when I use the Revlon Strawberry Blonde, my hair comes out exactly the color on the box. Usually that doesn't happen but that is a very reliable
color. But test it and try a strand test to see if your hair is the right porosity to get the color you want.

One more thing. I sitll have some natural rather ted reddish blonde hair left, so when I color it, there are dimensions in my hair color, but if your hair is all white, I think it looks better if you have a blend of strands in it - not unnaturally striped, but finely stranded. You could use a darker red color like a light auburn and then use a highlight kit to put in some strands around the face, or have it done professionally that way. You might like it better. Just some suggestions, hope it helps.

I'm 23!
by: Lucretia

Please tell me there is hope for creating a natural looking red hair color?! A couple weeks ago I started taking Ultra Nourish-Hair, it's a dietary supplement intended to nourish hair. I've been taking it for two weeks and am suddenly noticing an abundance of shiny whites! I'm going to stop taking the supplement. I'm pretty upset though, it's more than just a handful, they are scattered everywhere. I love my red. It's somewhere between strawberry blond and a dark red. I already miss each red strand. Does it work well to dye it and then just go in and get your roots done regularly?
