Removing black from hair

by kii

ive being dyeing my hair for about a yr & a half now, & im sick of the colour black, id like to go brown but i dont want to bleach or strip my hair. A friend suggested using Head & Shoulders shampoo to fade it out (which worked for her) she also suggested using washing up liquid. her hair is abit shorter than mine, & it took her under a week to fade her black & shes dyed it longer than me. I've being doing this for about 2 months now & all i've ended up with is roots, is there any other suggestions/alternatives? or should i just stick to it?

Removing Black Color
by: Donna

Hi Kii,It sounds like you have colored your hair with a permanent color product, and no amount of washing, even with strong detergent shampoos, will remove this. Don't be afraid of bleach if you have it done professionally.

A good stylist will analyze your hair carefully before proceeding. Also, she (or he) will be careful to treat only the colored part of the hair, and it will be processed only until the proper underlaying color is reached. In other words, you will not need to be bleached out to a pale yellow stage if you are wanting to be a brunette!

Another option, and one I do often in my salon, is to slice in some highlights. This will give an all-over lighter look to your hair, and if the target color is close to your natural root growth, you will not need to keep redoing the highlights. Good luck, and please, do not attempt a difficult color correction on your own.
