Resistant Grey Hair due to thyroid medicine

by CC
(Chicago IL)

I my thyroid removed 3 years ago and I am required to be on thyroid medicine for the rest of my life. During the last three years my hair coloring process has just gotten more and more difficult. I am being told it is due to the issues of the thyroid medicine makes the grey resistant more than any other problem. I am spending $400 a month at the salon and I am so frustrated because it just isn't holding.

Does anyone know of a professional product that will cover the grey? Am I alone? I feel embarassed by my hair and I can only hope that this problem will go away and I will feel pretty again.

I have resistant temple hair for reasons I don't quite understand why. But, I read a long time ago to put some developer on the area for 5 mins, then put the haircolor on, and its worked great for me.

Thyroid Meds and Resistant Gray Hair

I had never heard that about thyroid medicine making gray hair resistant to dyes, but thank you. I am experiencing that problem, and am also taking tyroid meds.

Using a 20% developer first for 5 minutes did help some. I'm currently trying to maintain my brunette color myself, because I like the shine of dark hair. There'll come a time I will have to give it up and enjoy my grays. Good Luck!

try the colored shampoos from Sally Beauty Supply. I have the brown. You may have to use it everyday because when I stop using it, the color washes out in about a week.
