Shampooing red highlights

I have brown hair and i just got red chunky highlights and blond highlights. My question is when i shampoo it is the red going to get into the blonde??????

Hi Vanessa,

Assuming your stylist used a permanent hair color, you won't have any problems with the red bleeding into the blonde while shampooing. The only time it's a concern is when the active color formula is on your hair and the stylist is rinsing it. If s/he isn't careful at that time, the red can tint the blonde a bit, but not after it's been washed off.

It s/he used a temporary color, that's another story. Because temporary colors are designed to wash out, the pigments aren't deposited inside the hair shaft as with permanent hair color, so there is a possibility of it bleeding onto the blonde pieces.

it might turn the blonde pink.. use a good shampoo for color treated hair and make sure you use cold water when your washing it. hot water opens your hair cuticle which will release the color.. cold water locks your color in.
