Too soon to dye again?

by Linzi
(Uk)

I attempted to highlight my hair on Saturday, and I stupidly washed out the bleach before I had achieved my ideal colour. I am keen to attempt to highlight it again this week. Would tonight (monday) be too soon. My hair has not been dried out at all from the first attempt and the colour is not very noticeable at all. The bleach was only in for 20 mins when I should have left it in for 30.

Hi Linzi,

Washing out the bleach before the hair has lightened sufficiently is a VERY common error... made by professional hairstylists on a regular basis. It takes time to develop an eye for when the bleach is ready to come off.

To answer your question, NO, it isn't too soon to bleach again. The tricky part will be getting the bleach on the highlighted pieces and not on the hair you don't want lightened.

Take a look at our hair color chart and guidelines for hair color chemistry to get an idea of what you're looking for with the lightening process. Your highlighted pieces should be pale yellow before removing the lightener or they will have too much yellow/orange underlying pigment to tone out properly.

Check out our other pages on highlighting an toning hair in the hair color section.

All the best,
