what color should i highlight my hair??

this is my natural hair color and i'm planning on getting highlights. id love to go lighter but i'm worried it wont suit me. I want something that would make my curls stand out more.

I've been a hair stylist/color specialist since 1984. My thoughts on what highlights might look good throughout your hair are: perhaps; an auburn, or a light cinnamon, or a lighter red. Another choice might be to try some toned down golden highlights. You really shouldn't go more than 3-4 shades lighter than your natural color, unless of course your base color is lighter than the color in your photo. If your original color was lighter, then you could probably work some lighter highlights in to it. I hope this helps! Good Luck!
