Dove vs Pantene: Which of the Two Brands Is Best for You?
If you’re looking for a comprehensive guide on Dove vs Pantene, then you’re on the right page. Choosing one of these two doesn’t have to be difficult, especially if you’ve used haircare or skincare products in the past.
Although they both make shampoos and conditioners, one may be better than the other. This can make your selection easier.
While keeping our interest in shampoos, this article will look at the differences between both brands. This comparison between these two different brands will familiarize you with Dove and Pantene.
At the end of the article, you should know which one is most suitable for you.
Dove vs Pantene: How to Choose
While researching, however, I came across many users who would recommend Dove above Pantene shampoo. Most claim they experienced dry hair after using Pantene but Dove makes their hair comfortable.
But I would disagree because Pantene is actually a well-known hair care brand while Dove is known for its skincare line.
In fact, Pantene has been around for longer and probably has more expertise in haircare than Dove. Finally, everyone has different hair.
So the best advice has always been to try both and see which one is better. That is if you can afford it. If you can’t afford it, then go for Pantene because they’ve been in business longer than Dove.
Dove vs Pantene: A Brief History of Both Brands
About Dove
Dove is a Unilever-owned personal care brand that was introduced in the United Kingdom in 1955 by Vincent Lamberti while working under the Lever brothers.
This brand has a product line that cuts across antiperspirants, moisturizers, and hair care products, among others.
Dove products are sold in over 150 countries across the globe, and have many variants offers for both men and women.
Dove Shampoo
Here is a rundown on what you should know about Dove before buying. Dove shampoo could arguably be tagged as one of the household names when talking about shampoos in the world.
According to Dove, shampoos go beyond just getting the hair clean. Hence, they provide a variety of shampoo options that give a gentle cleansing power and provide necessary nourishing hair needs at the same time.
One very impressive variant is the Dove Extra Volume 2-in-1, which serves as a combination of a shampoo and conditioning formula in one pack.
This particular Dove variant is also popular among users as it has quite a good number of positive reviews.
Other variants are:
- Intensive Repair Shampoo
- Daily Moisture Shampoo
- Volume and Fullness Shampoo
- Anti-Dandruff Shampoo
- Colour Care Shampoo, etc.
More can be found on their official website and can be purchased online with platforms like Amazon.
About Pantene
Pantene is an American hair care brand owned by Proctor & Gamble (P&G). Pantene was originally introduced in 1945 in Switzerland and was bought from Hoffman-La Roche in 1985.
In addition to that, Pantene commands attention in the hair care world and is most famous for its Pantene Pro-V (Pro-Vitamin) product, which is similar to the Dove Extra Volume.
Pantene Shampoo
Pantene satisfies its customers, according to their hair requirements. This is undisputable by the loads of options they offer to the market through product variations.
The Pro-V series, however, seems to be the most preferred product option in the market which comes with different options which include:
- Daily Moisture Renewal Shampoo
- Sheer Volume Shampoo
- Radiant Colour Shampoo
- Curl Protection Shampoo
- Breakage Defense Shampoo, etc.
Just like Dove, more variants can be found on their official website.
Dove vs Pantene: A Quick Comparison
If you have sensitive or dry skin, then Dove is better. Pantene has a lot of alcohol in their products, which can leave your skin dry.
However, Pantene specializes in hair care products, so I’ll recommend them for your hair products. Dove is a deodorant and soap brand, which makes them more suitable for skincare products.
Deciding which of both brands is the alpha of the shampoo world would be tough for anyone.
Why not?!
Both brands use the same basic chemical combinations, like Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES), Cocamidopropyl Betaine, and water. This cleanses without any significant damage to the scalp.
They are both effective and have no significant differences but the choice of preservatives, thickeners, and fragrances. Also, Dove is just slightly higher in price than Pantene.
Key Points on Dove
- Multiple choices of options
- Generally scalp friendly
- High Cost
- Multiple choice offers make decision-making tough
Key Points on Pantene
- Multiple choices of options
- Generally scalp friendly
- Pro-V series are rich in vitamins
- High cost
- Multiple choice offers make decision-making tough
The Dove and Pantene brands are exceptionally similar in some instances. Purchasing these products should be based on fragrance and specific ingredient preferences or allergies of each brand.
Dove vs Pantene Shampoo
Both the Dove and Pantene Shampoos are good products depending on what solution/treatment you’re looking for. For simple shampoos, both come in varieties and if you want the professional range, you should check out Pantene.
Dove does between when it comes to moisturizers and skincare products while Pantene has a greater emphasis on hair care products.
Conclusion
When you’re choosing beauty products, you have to understand that not all that you hear or see may be true. Even some stylists that are talented at styling and cutting hair may be poor at choosing or recommending the right product.
However, both Pantene and Dove shampoos and conditioners are considered to be among the best in the industry.
Whichever you choose doesn’t matter as long as it does what it says it would or at least brings a positive effect to your hair.
If you’ve used any of the products in the past, you can let it guide your decision. If you’ve had a positive experience with Dove and now want to try out another brand, then, by all means, go for Pantene.
However, if you’ve had a bad experience, then it makes sense to go for another and try it out.
If you’re looking for a solid shampoo that doesn’t contain plastic and is not likely to make your hair fall out, then you should check out the Pantene Pro-V shampoo and conditioner line. They’re very good and I’ll recommend them.
As you can see, choosing between Dove vs Pantene is just about knowing what your hair needs. And then just choosing appropriately.
I’m a 57 year old Grandmother and my hair has always been thin but I’m in need of a shampoo and conditioner that will work for older hair like mine, I’ve not tried Dove or Pantene so I’m going to try Pantene first!?
Hi Violet,
Since you’ve not tried any shampoo/conditioner, you can try Pantene and see how your hair reacts.
Let me know what result you get!
Very with unfortunately after using Pantene, so I’ve bought Dove Daily
Shampoo and Conditioner Moisture as this also helps keep skin soft. I’ll let you know what the result is next week.
As to the comment that Pantene has alcohols, there are two types of alcohol- drying ones like isopropyl alcohol like the rubbing alcohol in your cabinet and steryl alcohols, fatty acids that are thick, rich and creamy and opaque. They are usually found in the top 4-5 ingredients of a conditioner because they are an inexpensive moisturizer that are not related to dimethicone. Also some people find cocamidipropyl betaine a sensitizing ingredient, leading to itchiness and/or flatter hair especially at the roots. As silky as dove is, it can build up just as much as Pantene. Similar prices also I’m here in Florida.
