Is Aesop Cruelty-Free in 2020? SHM Answers!

Aesop is a very well-known, popular and loved brand that offers mainly skin, body and hair care for all skin and hair types. (Nowadays they are also branching off into other markets such as candles).

They started off as a small humble company in Melbourne in 1987, and they became bigger and bigger until they became the multinational company they are today.

They became popular thanks to their sleek and elegant packaging and thanks to the fact they use natural ingredients to produce high-quality skincare.

However, this doesn’t mean their products are produced without animal testing so is Aesop cruelty-free?

When searching on their website and reading their FAQ it is easy to find several tabs under the section “practices” that mention their animal cruelty stance.

Reading their different tags we can find that they do not use ingredients derived from animals (and are fully vegan), that they do not use ingredients that harm animals in any way and they do not test on animals either.

Likewise, they do not source or manufacture their products in countries where animal testing is required by law, such as China, and they do not sell in such countries either.

They have also received several cruelty-free certifications such as “Beauty without Bunnies” by PETA and the Leaping Bunny award against cruelty and their name appear in several cruelty-free databases.

To summarize: yes, Aesop is completely and 100% cruelty-free and they do not source their products or ingredients in countries that require animal testing, not sell to their markets either.

They might be one of the brands with the strongest stance against animal cruelty and one of the brands whose research is the most exhaustive when it comes to staying animal cruelty-free.

So we want to recommend them as an alternative to non-animal testing free brands.
